API Boosts: Extra Calls for Your Busy Days
It’s 2 PM on a Tuesday and your team is refreshing a supplier’s catalog.
Halfway through, the calls start failing. Your plan’s daily limit is used up, and the API answers every request with a 429 error until midnight UTC. The refresh waits. So do your inventory checks and order status updates.
Most integrations don’t use the same number of calls every day. A catalog refresh, a big order week or a new Shopify store can use several days’ worth in an afternoon. Until now there were two ways out: wait for the reset, or move up a plan and back down once the busy stretch is over. Waiting stalls your work for hours. Switching plans works, but it’s two plan changes and a higher bill for a few busy days.
So we built a third option.
How API Boosts work
- One-time packs, no subscription. You buy a pack once. Nothing renews.
- Used only after your daily allowance. Your plan’s calls come first every day; the pack covers the rest. On normal days it isn’t touched.
- Valid for 12 months. We email you 30 days before any calls on a pack expire.
- Shared by your whole account. Every API key and app on the account draws from the same pack.
- Up to two packs at a time. When one runs out, the next takes over without a pause.
| Pack | Calls | Price | Per 1,000 calls |
|---|---|---|---|
| API Boost 5K | 5,000 | $39 | $7.80 |
| API Boost 25K | 25,000 | $99 | $3.96 |
| API Boost 100K | 100,000 | $249 | $2.49 |
To put that in your terms: on Standard (300 calls a day), the 5K pack is about 17 extra days’ worth of your allowance. On Premium (15,000 a day), the 100K pack covers almost 7 extra days.
Packs are available on the Standard, Premium and Business plans. Account admins add them from Account Settings , under Usage today, and pay on Stripe’s checkout page. The calls usually start working within a couple of minutes. Teammates who aren’t admins can ask their admins from the same card.
When a bigger plan is the better deal
Packs are for busy days, not for every day. Moving from Standard to Premium costs about $239 more a month (about $200 on yearly billing). The same money buys roughly 80,000 to 100,000 calls in the largest pack. If you’d need more than that every month, the bigger plan costs less, and it comes with more than calls. If you go over now and then, a pack costs far less.
We’ll point this out ourselves: the email you get when your calls pause links to both options. You can compare the plans on our pricing page .
What else changed
We rebuilt the emails about your usage at the same time. You’ll hear from us before you reach your limit and if your calls pause, with times shown in your own time zone, not only in UTC. If that’s more email than you want, one click switches you to “only when calls stop”.
Questions you might have
Why not just raise everyone’s daily limit? On most days, most accounts stay well under their limit. Packs add calls only for the accounts that need them, on the days they need them, so nobody pays every month for capacity they rarely use.
What if I don’t use all the calls? That’s why we sell three sizes and remind you 30 days before any calls expire. If you’re unsure, start with the 5K pack; you can hold two packs at once and add another any time.
What happens when a pack runs out? Your account goes back to its plan’s daily limit. If you hold a second pack, it takes over and nothing changes for your apps.
Do unused calls roll over? They stay on the pack for 12 months from purchase. After that, any calls left expire and aren’t refunded, which is why we remind you 30 days before.
Can I use packs on the Free plan? No. Packs are for Standard, Premium and Business. Enterprise plans have custom capacity.
Where can I read the details? The full rules are in our documentation, under Rate limits → API Boosts .
